Coral Rehabilitation Programme

In 2023, we made waves in marine conservation with our first-ever Coral Reef Rehabilitation Programme at Pulau Aur, Mersing. This initiative brought together employees from across JCorp Group including Johor Plantations Group Berhad, KPJ Healthcare Berhad, QSR Brands and JLand Group, to restore marine ecosystems and strengthen community ties.

The programme not only raised awareness on the importance of preserving coral reefs but also supported the Johor State Government’s conservation efforts. Through reef rehabilitation, beach clean-ups, communal meals with villagers, and financial contributions to the local community, we built meaningful connections and made a lasting impact.

We started by planting 50 coral fragments in 2023, and due to the success of the programme, we’re diving back in with an additional 200 corals in 2025. In collaboration with Reef Check Malaysia, this year’s efforts introduced eco innovative methods to support reef rehabilitation, including the use of glass bottles as coral planting bases to reduce waste and cost while encouraging marine regeneration. A newly installed custom JCorp structure, made from concrete and green cement, was also added to provide a sturdy, long-term foundation for coral attachment and biodiversity expansion.

Real Science. Real Action. Can We Save the Coral Reefs?

Seagrass Ecotourism Experience

Yayasan JCorp organised the Seagrass Ecotourism Experience in Mersing, Johor, from 1 to 2 July 2025, as part of its continued commitment to marine conservation.

Building on its successful coral rehabilitation efforts launched in 2023, this new initiative focuses on seagrass meadows, vital ecosystems that support marine life, protect coastlines, and store carbon.

The two-day programme gathered 50 volunteers from the JCorp Group of Companies, along with researchers from Universiti Malaya, NGOs, and local tourism operators. Together, they explored Pulau Setindan’s pristine seagrass areas while participating in field activities and educational sessions designed to raise awareness of their ecological importance.

Through research collaboration with Universiti Malaya, the programme also aims to enhance scientific understanding of Johor’s seagrass ecosystems and support sustainable conservation strategies.

This initiative reflects Yayasan JCorp’s integrated approach to marine protection, linking coral and seagrass conservation for long-term ecosystem resilience. It also supports Johor’s goal to promote Mersing as a leading marine ecotourism destination ahead of Visit Johor 2026.

Tree Planting Initiatives

At Yayasan JCorp, we believe that nurturing nature is essential to building a better future. That is why we continue to prioritise tree planting as part of our long-term sustainability mission. By restoring ecosystems, protecting biodiversity, and combating climate change, we are helping to create greener, more resilient landscapes for generations to come.

1.One Million Roots for the Future: Tree Adoption Programme

  • In collaboration with Johor Plantations Group (JPG) and JPG Planterra,  Adoption Programme” — a bold step towards nationwide reforestation and environmental renewal. The launch event, held on 13 October 2024 at the KSRT Club House, Tiram Complex, marked the beginning of a long-term effort to reconnect people with nature. This initiative is part of JPG’s “One Million Roots for the Future” (1MRFF) campaign, which aims to restore and protect Malaysia’s natural environment through the planting of over one million trees — underscoring a shared commitment to biodiversity and climate resilience. Each tree planted under this programme is carefully nurtured for two years to ensure strong, healthy growth, contributing to the restoration of Malaysia’s ecosystems and greener landscapes for generations to come. 2.Growing Together: Trees for Schools

  • On 26 June 2025, Johor Plantations Group (JPG), in collaboration with Yayasan JCorp and the Johor State Education Department, officially launched the “1 Million Roots for the Future – Growing Together: Trees for Schools” programme at the Sungai Johor Eco Retreat (SUNJER), Basir Ismail Estate. This initiative brought environmental education to life by empowering students to take climate action in their own schools. A total of 6,938 plants were distributed to 44 schools across the Kota Tinggi district, including the Kota Tinggi District Education Office, contributing meaningfully to local efforts to green school environments and instil environmental awareness among the younger generation. In support of this mission, the Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) contributed 7,000 units of compost fertiliser, enriching the soil and ensuring each tree has the best opportunity to thrive sustainably. An inspiring tree lanting activity was also held at the 1MRFF  site in Basir Ismail Estate, where students and teachers came together to plant 50 trees, transforming knowledge into real-world action. The event reflected a shared commitment to nurture a greener, more resilient future — one tree, one school, and one community at a time.

3.Mangrove Tree Planting

Mangrove Restoration at Pulau Tanjung Surat: Protecting Nature, Empowering Communities

  • On 30 May 2025, a powerful step towards environmental restoration was taken as Johor Plantations Group (JPG), in collaboration with Yayasan JCorp, Waqaf An-Nur, and Pertubuhan Sahabat Hutan Bakau Pulau Tanjung Surat (PSHBTS), successfully planted 2,000 mangrove trees at Pulau Tanjung Surat, Kota Tinggi, Johor. This marks the second consecutive year the initiative has taken place at Pulau Tanjung Surat, bringing the total number of trees planted to 3,000 mangroves since 2024. The 2025 effort saw the participation of 80 dedicated volunteers from Johor Corporation and its group of companies, demonstrating collective action in preserving our shared environment. As part of Johor Plantations Group’s One Million Roots for the Future (1MRFF) campaign, this initiative reaffirms our unwavering commitment to biodiversity, climate resilience, and sustainable growth — nurturing a greener, greater Johor for generations to come.

1,111 Mangrove Trees for a Greener Future

  • On 11 September 2025, Yayasan JCorp, together with KPJ Bandar Maharani Specialist Hospital, planted 1,111 mangrove trees at Laman Bakau Parit Kassim, Muar, Johor, under the Johor Plantations Group’s One Million Roots for the Future (1MRFF) mission. The event brought together 80 passionate volunteers from Johor Corporation and its investee companies, united by a shared commitment to environmental conservation and community action. The number 1,111 holds a special meaning — symbolising KPJ Bandar Maharani Specialist Hospital’s anniversary, marking a milestone dedicated to protecting coastal ecosystems, reducing carbon footprints, and strengthening biodiversity in Muar.

River Conservation

Our rivers tell the story of our environment — and we are doing our part to keep that story alive and thriving.

In 2023, we marked World Rivers Day with a clean-up at Sungai Melayu, removing over 281kg of waste to raise awareness about the importance of freshwater ecosystems.

In 2024, we brought this commitment to the national stage during the World Rivers Day celebration at Sungai Tebrau, held in collaboration with UTM Campus Sustainability (UTMCS). Through the Kutip Sampah Sambil Riadah (KUDAH) activity, 300 volunteers collected 857kg of waste from riverbanks. We also launched a Training of Trainers (TOT) programme, empowering students from six schools with digital tools like iNaturalist to track biodiversity and champion river conservation in their communities.

The momentum continued in 2025 with a Beach Clean-Up Programme at Pantai Penyabong, Mersing, where 120 volunteers — from Yayasan JCorp, SWCorp, Johor Plantations Group, Wentel Engineering, J-Star Motion, and SK Penyabong — collected 420kg of waste, including 170kg of recyclables.

The programme, led by SWM Environment Sdn Bhd in partnership with us and Majlis Daerah Mersing, played a key role in protecting Johor coastlines and marine biodiversity.

To further promote eco-conscious behaviour among youth, we also soft-launched the "Recycle Glass Bottle Competition", which will officially run in 60 schools across Johor starting July 2025 — instilling sustainable habits in the next generation.
