Smart Farming Starts Here

We are reimagining how students learn — by bringing sustainability, innovation, and real-world impact into the classroom.

Through our Smart Farming Greenhouse: Sustainable School – STEM Programme, developed in collaboration with the Johor State Education Department (JPNJ), we are transforming agricultural-based schools across Johor into living classrooms — where science meets sustainability, and students grow more than just crops.

Together, we have identified 10 secondary schools to be part of this game-changing journey:

  1. SMK Bandar Baru Uda
  2. SMK Tun Syed Nasir Ismail, Johor Bahru
  3. SMK Taman Universiti 2, Johor Bahru
  4. SMK Sri Rahmat, Johor Bahru
  5. SMK Taman Desa Skudai, Johor Bahru
  6. SMK Buluh Kasap, Segamat
  7. SMK Telok Kerang, Pontian
  8. SMK Seri Medan, Batu Pahat
  9. SMK Bandar Penawar, Kota Tinggi
  10. SMK Air Tawar, Kota Tinggi

Each of these schools will be equipped with a Smart Greenhouse — 600 square feet of innovation — powered by IoT monitoring systems capable of managing and cultivating up to 2,000 leafy green vegetables, entirely online.

In 2024, four greenhouses were successfully completed, three of which were made possible through the generous sponsorship of SEFAR Fabrication (M) Sdn Bhd. Building on this success, two more greenhouses were completed in 2025 at SMK Buloh Kasap in Segamat and SMK Seri Medan in Batu Pahat, with support from Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor.

Smart Greenhouse at SMK Seri Medan – Growing Skills, Growing Futures

But this initiative goes beyond constructing facilities. It is about cultivating a mindset for the future. To strengthen this vision, teachers and officers from selected schools and the Johor State Education Department participated in a knowledge exchange workshop in Singapore. Organised with the support of Yayasan Sultan Ibrahim Johor, Raja Zarith Sofiah of Johor Foundation, JETCO, Temasek Foundation, and the National Institute of Education (NIE) Singapore, the sessions introduced educators to innovative STEM teaching approaches, sustainable farming models, and immersive learning experiences at leading urban farms.

Before scaling statewide, the initiative began with two pilot schools, SMK Tasek Utara and SMK Kota Puteri 2, known as Sekolah Rintis Bangsa Johor. These schools laid the foundation for the rollout, setting benchmarks for innovation and excellence in sustainable education.

This initiative is more than a programme — it is a movement to future-proof our schools, empower our youth, and build a greener, smarter Johor. Together, we are nurturing the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and changemakers.
